486 Diana’s Basin to Weldborough Hotel TAS

Hi all

We had a yummy bacon and egg breakfast (our tribute to valentines day) and then headed to St Helens where we stocked up on groceries, water and used the dump point. We were chuffed to find the local IGA had an Oscar the Grouch ride and another car trolley. We had lunch at the campervan overnight rest area where we were able to do a load of washing over lunch before topping up our water and heading to Weldborough – a tiny town in the mountains. We had passed the historic hotel there on our first lap around Tasmania and we thought it looked like a nice place to stay but as we were on the Safari we couldn’t stop.

Just as we were leaving St Helens we met two young backpackers who needed a lift to Launceston. We told them we were only going 40km down the road and it would be the middle of nowhere when we stopped but they didn’t mind. One guy (Pascal) was from Montreal Canada and the other (Dary) was from Iran both were studying at Melbourne Uni. We chatted the whole way to the pub and when we got there we shared a cider with them before they went to stand by the highway to get a lift. It was 4.30pm. In the next three hours until it was dark only four vehicles passed going in their direction. In the end we think a local invited them to stay the night. The pub was very pretty with a lovely beer garden to sit an enjoy a drink. The camping area attached to it was also very well maintained and only cost $5 per adult!

Love Bec
