About

This is our story about our life on the road travelling around Australia in our Winnebago home – imagine three years with three kids under three (although the third hasn’t arrived yet).

G’day Erik. Welcome to your new online travel journal.  This is the first sub-journal of your official online journal at itstheuteorthebaby.com.  I’ve created it to focus specifically on your travels in your new viking longship that we bought today.  It’s a 2003 Six-Berth Ford Transit Winnebago Freeway.  We’ve named the Winnebago and this journal ‘Eriksfjord’.  Eriksfjord is the area of Norway that Erik the Red is from.  Eriksfjord also sounds like Erik’s Ford (lame, but Dad’s are allowed to make ‘Dad Jokes’).  We wanted to name the Winnebago after Erik the Red’s (or his son Leif Erikson’s) Viking Longship.  However, Vikings don’t name Longships.  The Winnebago will be your home for the next five months as we tour around Australia.  Hopefully its just the start of many journeys.

We made up the itinerary for your first around Australia longship adventure as we went along and changed it regularly. We only gave ourselves a week to get ready. The decision to buy a Winnebago, take the rest of the year off and drive around Australia was completely an impulse decision based on a unique and unexpected series of circumstances.  You only get one life little buddy and I want to spend as much time of it with you as I can. We had five months of travelling around Australia. Our trip included Broken Hill, Flinders Ranges, Uluru, Olgas, Kings Canyon, Alice Springs, Macdonnell Ranges, Katherine Gorge, Kakadu, Litchfield, Darwin, Bungle Bungles, The Kimberley, Broome, Ningaloo Reef, Margaret River, Kalgoorlie, Nullabor Plain, Eyre Peninsula, Murray River.

G’day Erik & Oscar. This week, Erik’s little brother Oscar was born. As soon as he has had his 8 week immunisations, we’ll be on the road again. This time we are heading off for two years with two kids under two! We will head north to Outback and Tropical Queensland for six months, then to Tasmania for four months, then back over to WA for the rest of 2012. One of the exciting goals will be to see if we can make a living working on the road.

Lotsa Love Dad
